We are based in the Harrogate area and have a programme that includes walks most Sundays, an evening walk each Tuesday during the summer months, walking weekends away throughout the year and social events for members.
We welcome new members and try to cater for all walking preferences in twice yearly programmes with a wide variety of events:
(i) Sunday walks (all year round) (ii) Tuesday evening walks (summer only) (iii) Winter social events (iv) Weekends Away |

As summer approaches (yes really) we are putting together the summer programme and looking for volunteers to lead a walk. If you haven't lead a walk before please give it a try - contact Janice or Ian if you want help or advice. It may be someone else is feeling the same and the two of you can get together and lead one between you.
At this stage if you can choose a date (Click here for the DRAFT programme) (Updated 01/03/2010) and give us some idea of an area you are thinking of that is the enough. You can change the area later but it helps us to avoid walks in the same area on consecutive weekends.
We will need a short description and some idea of mileage later. The programme has to go to press at the start of April. There are both Tuesdays & Sundays to choose from so don't be shy. Either send an email to the F&D email address or call either Janice or Ian (contact details in the front of the programme).
Most people really enjoy the weekends away ... so why not organise one! Janice is the expert here so give her a call and chat about it.

The plans for a Greenhow walk altered suddenly on the morning of 21 February 2010. An unexpected overnight dusting of snow did not appear to be enough to change the plans for the Fell and Dale walk to Low Stoney Grooves from Greenhow. Unfortunately, it was the harbinger for un-forecasted heavy snow that then began to fall, and accumulate, as the meeting time approached. The plans for the day were soon changed to a walk from Harrogate. The leader, Pat Pelton, drove from Pateley Bridge to Harrogate to join the group of nine that had been met by Chris Tapster at the library. It became clear that it was appropriate that the plans were changed as all roads were untreated and very slippery, the inch of wet slippery snow quickly compacted to ice.
We met at the entrance to Valley Gardens and made our way to Harlow Carr then onwards to Beaver Dyke Reservoir by way of Pot Bank, where a car had wrecked and made immobile whilst attempting to descend to the bridge in the snow. Continuing onwards to Beaver Dyke reservoir for lunch, the snow provided a photogenic background. The return via Beckwithshaw with a finish by way of the Ringway to Valley Gardens made a very satisfying day out.
